NOTICE OF RACE
64th Annual Punchbowl Regatta
April 12 & 13, 2025
The Dixie Sailing Club is pleased to invite you to compete in the 64th Annual Punchbowl Regatta at Lake Martin, Alabama.
- Rules:
The races will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2025-2028, the relevant class association rules for the competing boats, and the Sailing Instructions. Sailing Instructions will be distributed to registered boats.
- Eligibility and Entry:
Punchbowl competitors may be any class of sailboat. The entry form is included with this Notice of Race.
- Anticipated/Proposed Classes:
Based on the registrations received, the fleets will be confirmed on 25 Mar 2025.
Catalina 22 Gold Fleet:
If three or more C22s enter the regatta in the C22 Gold Fleet, they will race as the C22 Gold Fleet.
Catalina 22 Silver Fleet:
If three or more C22s enter the regatta in the C22 Silver Fleet, they will race as the C22 Silver Fleet.
- This fleet is open to skippers without a C22 Gold Fleet first-place trophy in a Catalina 22 State, Regional, or National Championship regatta.
- If less than three C22s enter the C22 Silver Fleet, then those C22s will race in the C22 Gold Fleet.
Flying Scot Spinnaker Fleet:
If three or more Flying Scot skippers of any skill level enter and want to race, and use the spinnaker sail they will race as the Flying Scot Spinnaker Fleet.
Flying Scot Non-Spinnaker Fleet:
If three or more Flying Scot skippers of any skill level enter and want to race but either do not have or want to use a spinnaker, they will race as the Flying Scot Non-Spinnaker Fleet. If less than three enter, all will race as Spinnaker Fleet.
MC Scow Fleet:
If three or more MC Scows enter the regatta, they will race as the MC Scow Fleet.
Open/Handicap Fleet:
If three or more boats, not in other fleets, enter the regatta, they will race as the Handicap Fleet. This fleet will be scored using the Portsmouth handicapping system.
Multi-Hull Fleet:
If three or more multi-hull boats enter the regatta, they will race as the Multi-Hull Fleet. This fleet will be scored using the PHRF handicapping system.
- Races:
Five races are planned, with three on Saturday and two on Sunday. Weather conditions may dictate otherwise. One race constitutes a regatta.
- Scoring:
The Low Point System, RRS A4, will apply with all races counting towards the fleet finishing results. No score will be excluded. This changes RRS A2.
- Awards:
Trophies will be awarded to each fleet's first, second, and third-place finishers.
- The Courses:
The courses will be windward/leeward with an offset mark and leeward finish for all fleets except the multi-hull fleet, which will run a triangle course with an offset mark leeward finish. All fleets will use the same start and finish line designated by the Race Committee Chairman.
- Schedule of Events:
All the times given below are preliminary. Check at registration for any updates. All times are for the Central Time Zone.
• Friday, 11 Apr 25
- At Noon, the DSC gate will open for early arrivals. Earlier arrival may be arranged.
- 1630 – 1900 Welcome Party at the pavilion. Hot dogs, burgers and chips provided, but still BYOB!
• Saturday, 12 Apr 25
- 0800 – 1000 Brunch, Registration and launch boats
- 1000 – Welcome and skipper’s meeting at Pavilion
- 1130 – Warning signal for the first race of the day. No race starts after 1600.
- 1730 - 1900 music, race day discussions, and catered dinner - BYOB.
• Sunday, 13 Apr 25
- 0700 – 0900 Brunch
- 0930 – Warning signal for first race of the day. Weather permitting, more than one race may be held.
- Approximately 1300 - Awards presentation
- Cost Information:
Entry Fee: $75
The fee includes for the skipper and one more person for the Saturday brunch, catered dinner, and Sunday brunch. Dixie Sailing Club is a USSA member club. USSA members may show their current membership card and receive a $5 entry fee discount. Each skipper will also receive a 64th Annual embroidered hat with the entry fee. Extra hats can be ordered as shown below.

For each additional dinner for crew or friends. Order NLT 2April!!

- Venue:
The regatta will be held at the Dixie Sailing Club, 767 New Hope Church Road, Alexander City, AL 35010. Go to www.dixiesailingclub.com or any map application for directions.
- Food:
- Lunches will NOT be provided explicitly on Saturday or Sunday.
- Sunday Morning – Sunday Morning Brunch at the Pavilion.
- Saturday Night – Catered dinner at the Pavilion.
The food headcount will be based on registrations before 2 Apr, so please register early. OUR GOAL IS TO ENSURE WE HAVE THE NEEDED FOOD! So, keep in touch!

- The club is about eight miles SSE of Alexander City, AL.

- Camping
- Full hook-up camping is available at the nearby Wind Creek State Park. Office: 256-329-0845.

- Limited camping is available on the club grounds. We have restrooms but no utilities at the campsites. Reservations are required, so include a note on the registration
- Registration:
Registration this year may be accomplished in any of four ways, with NO money required to be sent before checking in at the club.

- Send the information by text to the phone number listed below.

- Radio Communications:
- The Race Committee may communicate with competitors on the water via VHF radio on Channel 72.
- Radio communications may include a countdown sequence for starts and other information for the convenience of competitors who choose to monitor the VHF. It is NOT the responsibility of the race committee to ensure all competitors hear a countdown.
- Failure to hear or understand communications from the race committee will NOT be grounds for redress.
