Charles Randall Lind, loving husband and father, passed away at age 85 on May 11, 2019, in Rockwall, Texas, due to cancer.
Charlie - or Chuck - as he was known to many, was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1934 to parents Carl and Thelma (Randall) Lind. His childhood years were spent in Spring Lake, Michigan, and in Chicago. He went to Skokie High School in Chicago, where he was on both the basketball and football teams.
Charlie attended University of Colorado in Boulder and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Following obtaining his degree, he moved to El Paso, Texas, where he enlisted in the Air Force.
In business, Charlie had an entrepreneurial spirit that took him to California, Chicago, Houston, and eventually to Heath, Texas.
Charlie often said he was lucky to love twice in his life. He was married to Shirley Krebs in 1956 and together they had 5 children. Widowed in 1998, Charlie found love again and married Judith Grinnan, his loving wife for the past 20 years.
Charlie loved sports and especially had a lifelong passion for sailing. As a child, his family summered at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where, at the age of 7, his Grandfather gave him his first boat, named Charlie's Choice. From then on, he was hooked. He has sailed on many types of boats but was most fond on the Scow class (A's, E's, C's and MC's), actively racing well into his seventies.
Over the years, he has been a member of various yacht clubs including Spring Lake (Michigan) and Rush Creek in Heath, Texas. He was able to maintain his closeness to sailing both on and off the water throughout his life.
Other passions included golf and his golf ministry Bible study group, the Links Players International, also following hockey and football at all levels. Perhaps his greatest daily joy was doting on his and Judy's dogs, Georgie Boy and Gabby, which he was happy to share this pleasure with anyone who knew him.
Charlie's story includes a membership in AA for over 40 years, mentoring many people in need throughout the years. He took great pride in continuing this form of ministry by exemplifying success and outreach.
Charlie treasured family and friends, both new and old, and maintained many lifelong friendships over the years. He was a big kid at heart with a loving spirit, and he will be missed by many.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Thelma (Randall) Lind; sister Marjorie (Lind) Frankenberg; and first wife Shirley (Krebs) Lind.
Charlie is survived by his wife Judy (Grinnan) Lind; his five children from his first marriage, daughters Korey (Jeff) Bernstein of New Jersey, Tracy (Ed) Fishman of Dallas, and Darcy (Terry) Christ of Dallas; and sons Dick (Darlean) Lind of Illinois and Dave (Donna) Lind of Florida. He is also survived by his stepchildren Sere Grinnan of Colorado and Jeff (Lorie) Grinnan of Heath, Texas, along with several grandchildren from both families, as well as nephews and extended family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, June 21, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Lake Pointe Church at 701 E. Interstate 30, Rockwall, Texas 75087. Randy Wolff of Links Players International will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to Rush Creek Yacht Club Junior Program or to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to express gratitude to the doctors at Baylor Hospital Dallas, Highland Meadows Rehab in Rockwall and Vitas Hospice for their care of Charlie.
Charlie's cell phone alarm went off every day at 3:16 p.m. for his prayer reminder. "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever so believeth Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16.
