Eligibility This regatta is open to all sailors of MC scows. This is an MCSA sanctioned event. Each skipper must be a current member of MCSA and meet trophy age requirements before the first scheduled race. Non-MCSA members will be scored DNC for all races.  A boat may sail with a different sail number from its hull number if it registers with that sail number, and must compete with that number for the entire event. The races will be governed by the rules defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
  1. The sailing instructions will consist of the instructions in RRS Appendix S, Standard Sailing Instructions, and supplementary sailing instructions that will be published and be posted on the official notice board located at the club.
  2. Racing Area:  The racing will be the waters of Lake Eustis.
  3. Courses to be sailed are all windward leeward courses as shown in the Standard Sailing Instructions Appendix S.
  4. No race will be started with the wind under 5 mph.
  5. Flags will be the primary means of communication on the water however the RC will attempt to make VHF radio contact regarding OCSs, weather issues, safety concerns, and other actions of the RC where clarification might be helpful to the sailors.   The competitor channel to be used will be posted.
  6. Racing rules 30.1, 33, 35, 62.1, A4.2 and A11 will be changed.  The changes will appear in full in the sailing instructions. The sailing instructions may also change other racing rules.
  7. Competitors give absolute right and permission for video footage or photographs of themselves or their boat generated during an MCSA event to be published in any media for press, editorial or advertising purposes.

The Low Point System, RRS A4, will apply, except that RRS A2 is changed so that each boat's total score will be the sum of her scores for all races unless seven races are completed. If seven races are completed, each boat shall discard her worst score except when prohibited under RRS 90.3(b).

Three races need to be completed before a Midwinter Champion is recognized and perpetual trophies awarded.  One race constitutes a regatta for purposes of awarding keeper trophies. Awards will be based on her finishes in the overall fleet.
Keeper trophies:
  • Top Ten (10) Overall - Any age, male, or female
  • Top Youth
  • Top Woman
  • Top three (3) Masters
  • Top three (3) Grand Masters
  • Top two (2) Mega Masters
The following Perpetual Trophies may be awarded if three or more races are completed:
  • MCSA Bill Crum Midwinter Championship Trophy - Overall winner
  • MCSA Midwinter Championship - Top Master Trophy
  • MCSA Midwinter Championship - Top Grand Master Trophy
  • MCSA Midwinter Championship - Top Megamaster Trophy

Melges Performance Sailboats will be running a two-day Zenda University session prior to the 2018 MCSA Midwinters Championship. Tuesday & Wednesday March 6 and 7. The Zenda University session is limited to 20 boats. Please contact Andy Burdick for specific details.

If three races have been completed no warning signal will be made after 12am.  If three races have not been completed this time limit is extended to 3pm. No warning signal shall be made after 3pm.

Boat registration is $195 if you register before March 1 ($205 after that). Registration fee includes: Breakfasts, Lunches, and regatta T-shirt for all skippers. Regatta Banquet included for skipper.
Register early to ensure correct size T-shirt.

Guest & crew lunches will be provided at an additional cost.
Reservations for Friday night's Additional Banquet Dinner for competitiors quests ($25) must be made by end of regatta registration latest. BUT early reservation is recommended and will be on a first come first served basis.
Complimentary extra Banquet Dinner for the guest of a Triple Crown qualifier is included in registration fee.

Please Note: Upon arrival, LESC can accept credit card payments providing that the card is present and can be swiped. 

Lodging RVs/Camping Camping is permitted to the North of the Clubhouse. City of Eustis zoning regulations limit LESC to eight spaces for RVs under 30' length. RV space must be declared/reserved in the comment section of your registration form - first come first served!

For those who want to make the sailing regatta also into a family vacation, Hayes Vacation Homes has properties available (3-6 beds)in the Orlando area, next to Disney World and Universal Attractions, for sailors attending the Midwinter regatta. The regatta discount is up to $100 off the total cost. Rentals start at $109 plus tax per night for a 3 bedroom home with private pool. The minimum stay is 4 nights. MC Boat Storage LESC has a Boat Storage Program for sailors who want to keep their boats here between the regattas.
